Very interesting and informative. Thank you so much. I've noticed several television shows favoring light shades of turquoise in their logos and wondered what they knew that I didn't:-) Now I know, thanks to your generous sharing of information. posted in Color me...TURQUOISE, Pantone color of 2010
We have the option to deactivate the file instead of giving it away for free don't we? At least that's the option I've been given lately. I opt to give it away for free. Sometimes I delete it if the image is an old stinker :-) I have a small portfolio and find that a free image usually brings more sales. Buyers tend to be curious about what else you have to offer and will buy. For someone like Fogiss, who has a huge port and is an incredible photographer, the "free effect" might have a different impact on his sales.
Overall, I see nothing but increase on the horizon for stock. It used to be that our work was bought by larger businesses and online retailers. With the explosion of blogs and their popularity, the number of buyers is constantly growing. I know that I've started buying images for different projects, and I'm just small potatoes at this point. There are thousands of people out there like me with start ups, and we need images. Lots of images. The typical blog reader scans the page in an "F" pattern, and using images is a great way to give them that pattern, plus a fast read. It also helps, literally, to illustrate your point without having to be too wordy.
There's no crisis, just big changes. The typical stock shot isn't necessarily what the new flood of buyers want. Keep shooting and enjoy some income :-) If there's any crisis, it's a crisis of new opportunities and new types of images selling. Look at the "photographer of the week" this week. That's not the typical stock of yesterday, but just the kind of thing that appeals to the new kind of buyer. posted in Is there a crisis in stock image bussiness?
Thanks!!! My Mac crashed and I switched back to a PC because of the price. My fingers are making a mess of everything I touched because they're still trying to do Mac shortcuts. The site you posted is going to be very, very helpful. Awesome portfolio, by the way. Your PS skills are incredible.
For those looking for more PS tutorials, www.bestphotoshoptutorials.net is a really cool site. But it still takes a lot of skill and practice to achieve the level of excellence Littlemac has. It takes years. Congrats on sticking with it and doing just fantastic work. posted in Photoshop keyboard shortcuts...
